His Word is the final authority. WHO CAN SILENCE IT??? Who can call Him a liar? To reject His word, His counsel or His instruction is to reject Him as the final authority in your life. To reject His word is to reject His blessing, His provision and His plans to prosper you and not to harm you. It’s rejecting His future for you and the eternal life He desires to give you. Awaken us from our slumber, Oh God! Break through our stubborn, numb and rebellious hearts that we may hear your truth, receive your truth and LIVE! These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1Co.10:11-13)
Many will read this blog and think about someone else, wishing that person would read this and turn from their ways. But this is for you and its for me. No one is immune to destruction. Your marriage isn’t untouchable, your family isn’t unshakable, your life hasn’t reached the “holy” stage that we subconsciously try to obtain.
David, the man after God’s own heart. I don’t care if you view David as this during this stage of his life. That’s what God calls him. Do you think God knew he would fall when He so boldly proclaimed David as a man after His heart, when He chose him? It was in God’s DNA for David. It was the word that God spoke over David’s life. God wants us to speak His words over the generations, calling out the men and women He has made them to be. AN ARMY THAT WILL OVERCOME AND IS VICTORIOUS!! Hallelujah!
We read that in a previous battle David became exhausted (2Sam. 21:15) to the point that he had to be rescued by Abishai. David’s men then swore to him in verse 17 that they will never again allow him to go into battle with them, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished... I thought this was extremely interesting and opposite of what the Lord had spoken over David. God had anointed David to be a king and a man of war. Whether this was the reason David stayed behind in chapter 11 of 2 Samuel, as if he gave into doing what his men wanted him to do. Or whether he stayed out of sheer complacency, thinking, “Man we just whooped 40,000 foot soldiers and 700 charioteers, maybe I’ll just chill in my crib like a ‘g’.” (sorry no translation for any of that, hopefully you picked up what I threw down.) Regardless of the reason, David wasn’t walking where the Lord wanted him and this made him subject to destruction. Subject to the “lamp” becoming extinguished...
David had seven “way outs” and was oblivious, numb and defiant to them all
He stayed when he should’ve of gone. (2Sam 11:1)
He got up when he should’ve rested. (2Sam 11:2)
He walked when he should’ve stood firm. (2Sam 11:2)
He looked when he should’ve turned away. (2Sam 11:2)
He spoke when he should’ve been silent. (2Sam 11:3)
He heard but he didn’t listen. (2Sam 11:3-4)
He acted when he should of resisted. (2Sam 11:4)
And it was all done in secret but God will always brings to light what is done in secret. Not to condemn but to restore. When God found adam in eve, “they had hidden themselves for they were shameful and tried to cover themselves with leaves”. When HE found them, when there actions were brought to light, He covered them by killing a lamb. They were not “fully covered” until the lamb came, in the same way Jesus’s blood was shed to cover our sins, making Him the only way to be covered and cleansed. God’s plan is to restore and save mankind, but man interprets a confrontation with their maker as condemnation instead of restoration. Some become defensive and reject His restoration because they honestly believe they did nothing wrong. But GOD SEES ALL. HE KNOWS ALL. You can’t argue with HIM. You can’t call HIM a liar.
David hides everything so well. In fact we can become “pros” at hiding sin and living in rebellion. Our eyes can become accustomed to darkness so that we can walk in it without stumbling...but it won’t last and we haven’t deceived God. David couldn’t get Uriah to cover up David’s sin. Uriah did nothing wrong. In fact he did everything right. He wasn’t just a soldier on the battlefield, he was also one off of it, 24/7. Uriah paid for his dedication to God WITH HIS LIFE!!! We stop listening to God or reject God’s voice in fear that we will lose a relationship, a job or a reputation. But if we make God the final authority in our lives, His blessing, favor and presence will become everything that matters. AND IT IS.
God sends Nathan to tell David what he did. David gets furious at how another man treats a guy’s sheep. In the word it says in 2Sam 12:5 that “David burned with anger” saying the man deserved to die and pay for the lamb four times over. David would be like the person who would read this blog and think it is for someone else. Which shows me that David did not think he had done anything wrong. HE WAS NUMB AND BLIND. In fact David did not acknowledge he had sinned until 2Sam 12:13 when his eyes were opened and his pride was shattered. The more you resist the Holy Spirit’s voice the more seared your conscience has become. You have become dead inside. You have rejected Him as the final authority in your life for you no longer listen to his ways. Woe to the one who continues to live in rebellion while claiming to be a follower of Christ. Can a man claim to be in the light if he walks in darkness?? REPENT! God desires to restore you, stop living in bitterness, anger and clinging to offense. Receive His restoration and turn from your sinful backsliding. Choose this day whom you will serve.
Blessed is the man who does not WALK in the counsel of the wicked, or STAND in the way of sinners, or SIT in the seat of mockers, but his delight is in the Law of the Lord and on His Law he meditates day and night. (Ps 1:1&2)
When your delight is in His Word 24/7, you will WALK in His Counsel, STAND in His ways and SIT in His seat of truth, authority and life. You will be Blessed.
Lord, search my heart. Awaken me from my slumber. Take the place of my first love once again. Be the final authority of my heart, the Lord and Savior of my life. Let my delight be in you that I may walk, stand and sit wherever you lead me. Amen.
