I was thinking of all the Christmas Eve's through all the years of my life. How when I was little and I looked at the furnace outlet in my bedroom, I wondered how on earth Santa could get through that little space to bring us Christmas presents, specially since we didn't have a fireplace. But he always seemed to find us! Then I grew up and had kids of my own, and the best part of Christmas was watching their eyes light up. Now it takes so little to make us happy for Christmas. Just a kid coming home for a week, Christmas dinner prepared by someone else and just being together around the Charlie Brown tree.
This reading today talks about why Jesus came. Hebrews 10 in the Message Bible says,"You don't want sacrifices and offerings year after year; You've prepared a body for me for a sacrifice. It's not fragrance and smoke from the altar that whet your appetite." So I said, 'I'm here to go it your way oh God, the way it's described in your Book."
He goes on to say, "This new plan I'm making isn't going to be written on paper, it isn't going to be chiseled in stone; This time I'm writing out a plan in them, carving it on the lining of their hearts. I'll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins!"
What a deal. What a Christmas promise from over 2000 years ago...because Jesus came and died for us. I love knowing these promises are for now, this Christmas!
