Don't Eat Cucumbers

Daily Bible CoverThank you Lord for Your spirit that gives life! MAY Your people arise from despair by the precious blood of Christ and MAY your praise continually be on our lips! We were created to be like you, renew us today in Your image and MAY your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven! Its always been normal, in human nature, for us to have likes and dislikes. Some may like soccer but others prefer basketball. Some may like reading books others prefer playin’ video games. Normal people detest cucumbers while strange people embrace them. It’s crazy to me how different everybody's likes and dislikes can be from each other. Culture has a huge influence on people as well. Why is it that food liked in Africa is different then food liked in Italy? Why is it that people in Australia have embraced Cricket while Baseball is preferred in America? Culture does influence the likes and dislikes of people in some cases...

We were created in the image of God. We were created to be with Him and for Him to dwell in us. We were born and designed for the kingdom and the presence of God. And we know that the precious blood of Christ has made a way for us to become His people again. His Kingdom culture desires to come and invade our everyday lives. That we would eat, live and breathe as the people of God. Colossians 3 says,

“Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above not on earthly things for you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory...”

It goes on saying that we are to put to death the things that have belonged to our earthly nature since we have put on His nature, our NEW SELF, which IS being renewed in in knowledge and in the image of its creator.

This week Proverbs listed off a bunch of things that the Lord detests. We know that God is a holy God. We know that He is a God that hates what is evil and loves what is good.

The Lord hates dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him. Pr. 11:1

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Pr. 6:16-19

Our God is not a God who sits back waiting for His people to be good enough, pure enough and holy enough to come near Him. He is a God who came to us in our wickednes. He is a God who chose us before we sinned, loved us knowing we would turn on Him and spit in the face of the cross. He is a God that purifies us, cleanses us and makes us like Him everyday by the power of His Holy Spirit.

We were told in Colossians that we have received this “new self” that is being renewed in the knowledge and image of it’s creator. It’s not a renewing that can be done by our human hands or righteousness. It’s by his grace and by the power of the Holy spirit in our lives that everyday He is renewing us to be more like Him. Everyday He is renewing us to think like Him. EVERYDAY He is renewing us into His knowledge and His image.

I don’t have to be good enough, He makes me good enough. I don’t have to pretend to be holy, He makes me holy. The more we submit to Him, humble ourselves before Him and walk in His ways the more we will overcome by the power of His Spirit! PRAISE GOD!
