Embracing the apple // Rejecting the tree

Daily Bible Cover HOLY is the Lord! HOLY is His name! Let the nations find rest in Him alone and arise as His holy people! He is not a supplement for your lives, only to be taken and acknowledged during trials or hardship. He does not, in any shape or form, parallel to a drug or a pill that is a temporary fix. It looks good on paper and sounds good to the ears of men, but yet mankind, in it’s majority, has always sought the SAVIOR as a SUPPLEMENT and not as it’s final SOLUTION! Jesus Christ is mankind’s ONLY WAY, his IRREFUTABLE TRUTH and NEVER-ENDING LIFE! He is before all things and in Him all things hold together. (Col. 1:17)

The law was given so that mankind would know and acknowledge God as holy and that they would be holy as He is, was and will always be. We see the basis for why they should obey His laws in Leviticus 22:31-33:  “Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord. Do not profane my holy name, for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am the Lord, who made you holy and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord.”

Has it hit you, the way it blindsided me, that God wanted to be apart of every aspect of their lives? The way they’d raise their families, the way they’d make their food, work the fields, take care of their possessions and even in the ways they’d “relieve themselves of their excrement” in Doodoo ronomy 23:12-14. God cares about every part of the lives of His people. Everything they did was to be done as holy unto a holy God. Everything they did was to remind them that He was their holy God and they were His holy people. He is a holy God and He is calling His people to become holy as He is holy. For what fellowship does light have with darkness? What relationship does good have with evil? In Old Testament times man’s holiness was based on works that came from the law. This produced a heavy burden on man to “work” for his temporary righteousness. Today, because of Christ, our burden is easy! It is by grace we have been saved through faith and this is not of ourselves or by what our hands can produce, but through JESUS ALONE. He is the only one who can make us HOLY and pleasing to God!

Lev. 26:3-46 goes into detail about what blessings or punishments would come if the Israelites obeyed or disobeyed the commands of God. (We'll also read about this tomorrow in Duet. 28) The emphasis of our obedience should never be on receiving blessings or done out of a fear of being punished. Oh that a generation would just desire Him instead of the fruit and blessing that comes from Him. The most dangerous, un-fulfilling place for a Christian to be is when they put more emphasis on “the blessings of God” then on “the presence of God”. We see that the Israelites would long for blessing and when they achieved a measure of it, they would forgot about His presence and what He had done. This would result in them no longer walking in His ways because of their “security”. Then He would punish them because of their disobedience. When punished, God’s people would naturally call out to Him for His presence and for His favor to return and the loving compassionate God, who is rich in mercy, would once again shine His face on them.

The truth is you were created to receive and enjoy the blessings of God. Blessings and treasures that are greater and weightier then the riches of this earth. Blessings that are more valuable then material possessions. Ones that are more precious then the empty desires of the flesh. God desires to bless His people. It’s what He loves! It’s the reason why He makes promises to us and even to those He knows will later betray Him. He delights in us so much that He can’t wait to reveal more of Himself to us. My prayer is that God would bless you and cause His face to shine on you, but may you not just serve Him to be blessed. It’s like eating an apple and then chopping down the tree that produced it. Embracing the “fruits” of God but rejecting Him when your “full” or “satisfied”. We need to lean on Christ and desire Him in the same ways wether in the desert or in the promise land. Wether in the valley of the shadow of death or by the still waters in the green pastures. He is our HOLY God who is worthy of our praise, honor and devotion regardless of what season He’s placed us in. Today, today, TODAY He desires to shine in you and through all that you do. Let Him call the shots. Whatever it takes, at whatever cost. He will withhold no good thing from Him whose life is blameless, but the greatest treasure is that HE IS WITH YOU. The HOLY ONE is WITH YOU and FOR YOU! Praise God! His people lack no good thing! Rest in His nearness today!! Amen.
