Good Day Church Family! : ) I pray that this day may find you full of the JOY of the Lord! His JOY is the strength we need in all things, whether we find ourselves on top of the highest mountain or walking through the lowest valleys! The JOY of the LORD is our STRENGTH! (Nehemiah 8:10) Amen! : )
On Sunday Mornings, MY Generation has MY Mornings; Sunday School for Youth and Young Adults! On Sunday we had an awesome discussion on Hebrews 12:1-13. Today, I wanted to share with you the beginning part of this passage that jumped out at me like never before!
Hebrews 12: 1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. I've read this passage numerous times, but for some reason the line, "for the joy that was set before him" captivated my attention.
The JOY that was set before Christ was to be with us for all of eternity! Wow. WOW. WOW! The reason that Christ died and rose again on the third day was so that we could have a HOPE and a FUTURE (Jeremiah 29:11-13) and spend eternity with HIM! This week leading up to Easter is laced with such a mighty significance! I've found myself repeating the thought, "Wow! Jesus ENDURED for me because of the JOY that was set before HIM! Jesus did all of that for me!"
It only makes sense that the JOY, that our goal, at the end of our "finish line" (Hebrews 12:1) be Jesus! The JOY set before us is Jesus Christ! HE conquered the grave because of the JOY that would result! Do you see that cycle I am seeing? The JOY set before Jesus was to be with us for eternity. The JOY set before us is JESUS so that we could be with HIM for eternity! Haha! : ) That blesses me! : )
As we reflect upon the significance of this week, let us fix or eyes on JESUS the AUTHOR and PERFECTOR of our FAITH! Let us run with ENDURANCE and PERSEVERANCE, allowing nothing to hinder or entangle us from the JOY that Christ so freely offers! May you not grow weary or lost heart; but rather be strengthened and encouraged in HIM!
For HIS Glory! : )
