Salutations on this beautiful Saturday! : ) I hope that you have had some time to enjoy the beautiful weather! I am so glad that Summer is finally beginning to show her face! Haha! : ) I cannot stay silent about the goodness of God in my life! I cannot conceal it and I cannot refrain from proclaiming HIS love and faithfulness towards me! It is like a mighty roar that cannot be stifled! Put me before an assembly and praise is going to overflow out of my mouth! (Psalm 40:9-10) Give me a keyboard, a computer, and an Internet connection and I’ll blog about it! : )
One of the things I have always admired about David and the writers of the book of Psalms is the honesty with which they write. We read the truth, even when it seems written with sorrow! Today, I want to highlight two chapters that have left an impression on me in our readings.
Psalm 40 begins with David waiting patiently for the Lord. As he waited, the Lord turned to him and heard his cry! I can surely say that there have been times in my life where I have had to wait on a response from the Lord! In fact, there are things that I have been praying about since I was younger, that I am still waiting on the Lord to reveal! I believe that He will come through for me and will answer my prayers when His time is right.
In today’s society waiting is rare. Everything comes to us at a fast pace. The moment I click “publish” on this blog, it will be readily accessible all over the world! If I am hungry, I can drive thru Chic-Fil-A (Lord, continue to bless their chicken sandwiches!) and get my food within minutes. In today’s world, I do not have to wait for a long period of time to get what I want. Yet, sometimes we must wait patiently for the Lord. He allows us to wait not because He wants us to grow faint, but because the Lord wants to establish character in our heart! So that is what David did, he waited patiently for the Lord and the Lord honored that and answered him! Verses 2 and 3 continues with this:
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Has there been a time in your life where you felt that this is exactly what God did? Was there a time where you felt like you were so stuck in quicksand that you did not know how to get out?
I know that I can answer yes to both of those questions. God saved me! He really did set me up on a firm foundation! He came in and rescued my life! He HAS put a NEW song in my mouth and heart! Praise God!
The verses continue stating that a person who trusts the Lord is blessed! (Ps40, V4) Lord, help us to trust in you so that we may be considered blessed! David praises God saying that the wonders God has accomplished are innumerable! They are exceeding and abundant!
I know that no matter the circumstances that may be surrounding my life, I too can say that God’s blessing upon my life always exceeds my thoughts and dreams! (Ephesians 3:20). Even if I tried to speak of all of them, I would miss an enormous amount! I cannot speak of all of them because they really are too many to declare! God’s blessing upon our lives is limitless! When God is in it, there is no limit! That is awesome!! : )
If we jump over to Psalm 73, the writer says that he was confused as to why it seemed that the wicked go on carefree and without seemingly any trouble (Psalm 73:12)
Have you ever asked yourself why it seemed like those who did not fear God were prospering over you? At times it may look like they are prospering, but in the end their lives will only lead to ruin. I like how the writer puts this:
When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. (Psalm 73:16-17)
Asaph (the writer of this Psalm) tried to understand on his own why all of this was happening, but then Asaph entered into the PRESENCE OF GOD, the SANCTUARY of GOD and UNDERSTOOD.
I believe that if we stopped trying to lean on our own understanding and just went to the presence of God, if we would just dwell in His courts, we would then find understanding! If only we would stop trying to make sense in our mind and just went to HIM, we would be more at peace and less anxious! When Asaph pondered what was going on around him, verse 21-22 says his heart was grieved, his spirit embittered, he was senseless and ignorant.
I will be the first one to say that I have experienced these feelings. When I try to make sense on my own, when I try to logic things out, I get nothing. I only make more of a mess in my mind! Then Asaph finds peace and says:
Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (Psalm 73:23-26)
When I have tried to carry situations on my own strength, I only end up more anxious and fretful than when I first began, I only get to the end of myself. It is at the end of myself that I realize that only Jesus is it for me. Nothing else should dictate my life but His authority! He must be supreme in my life so that I can function because my flesh really is weak and my heart really is fragile; they fail me. Ah! BUT God is the STRENGTH we need! There is nothing on earth for us but HIM! He is our the direction in which we go towards! He is the guidance we yearn for!
This day, find power in the presence of God! Do not be discouraged by trying to make sense of things in your own understanding! Remember that a person who trusts in the Lord is blessed! Trust in HIM! Believe that as you wait patiently upon HIM, HE WILL COME THROUGH FOR YOU! You will see and know that the Lord IS God! That there is no one on heaven and earth besides HIM! His majesty will be proclaimed! He already has the victory! He already is the final authority! Even when it may seem like others who do not love God are prospering, give HIM the PRAISE! He is worthy of our praise, no matter the circumstance! When we praise we are opening the door for breakthrough to walk right in! Be reminded that HE is your deliverer! He is ALWAYS with you, He will never fail you no matter where you find yourself in this moment! I encourage you to take a moment right now and become aware of His presence. In His presence you will find the peace you so desire and the answers that you so seek.
Have a blessed Saturday, I love you in Jesus’ name! : )
