I'm a person who doesn't like a lot of blood and gore in my books, or on t.v. or in movies, so the Bible reading this week was really something. I know one thing, it reminds me that I really want to serve God in obedience to what He asks of me, because everything is for the purpose that He put me on this earth for. I want to do any thing I can do to be part of His plan for me. So the section I'm zeroing in on is PROPHECIES FULFILLED! Elisha had prophesied that there would be plenty of cheap food to eat by this time tomorrow. The king said, "Look, even if the Lord opened the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?"
Elisha said, "Sorry, you'll see it, but you won't eat it. And everything happened just like God said it would. The prophesy was fulfilled including the prediction of the king's death. Now follows all the killing of many people again fulfilling prophesy that God gave to Elijah.
Jehu was anointed king over Israel, and God used his zeal to get rid of a lot of evil people. In my commentary, however it says the evaluation of Jehu is one of "Limited obedience." 2Kings 10:31-But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of God with all his heart."
Nonetheless, he accomplished a great deal and received God's commendation for his work. Most likely a prophet communicated God's message to Jehu. "Because you have done well in doing what is right in my sight, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation."
I believe all of us want to totally obey God not in limited obedience like Jehu. How about you. It's not scary at all if we are doing what we are supposed to do and living Christlike lives. I love the truth that God has a purpose for all of us that He has called everyone of us.
