Our God has always been in the business of restoration and reconciliation. In today's reading the Lord used the prophet Zechariah to encourage the people of Israel with words of restoration. I do not know about you, but there is nothing so sweet as experiencing the restoration of God in our lives. Zechariah brings words of restoration even though the promises of God cannot be seen with the human eye. The temple has not been completed and the lands are in dismay. YET, God still sends Zechariah to administer words of LIFE.
Then another message came to me from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: My love for Mount Zion is passionate and strong; I am consumed with passion for Jerusalem! “And now the Lord says: I am returning to Mount Zion, and I will live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City; the mountain of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will be called the Holy Mountain. “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Once again old men and women will walk Jerusalem’s streets with their canes and will sit together in the city squares. And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls at play. “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: All this may seem impossible to you now, a small remnant of God’s people. But is it impossible for me? says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. [Zechariah 8:1-8]
Before God speaks these words, He reminds Israel of their ancestors and how they turned their backs to the Lord and how they defied God’s instructions. Although this deeply angered the Lord (Zechariah 7:11-14) He says He is going to return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. He is going to call Jerusalem the Faithful City and proceeds to speak into the destiny of the Israelites!
I absolutely LOVE this! This can also parallel into our lives! His faithfulness far exceeds ours! He is faithful when we are faithless!! God overflows in mercy and abounds in grace! Although we make a mistake, or take the wrong path it is as though God remembers that no more! Restoration is the eraser to our past! That is exactly what God did to His people. Although they sinned and caused so much destruction, God still remembers and in His infinite love RESTORES them.
I am so thankful for the restoration of God in our lives. It is His goodness that leads us to His side, His kindness that draws us to repentance. When we reliquinsh our hold on our life and turn it over completely to God, we experience the redemptive power that makes us better, makes us stronger. Just like God spoke life into the people of Israel, so does He do the exact same today! He is speaking restoration at all times! That is the heart of the Father so that all would experience new-ness and fullness of life! When God restores it is always to the full measure and then some!
Lord, this day we choose YOU! We are SO grateful for the rescuing power of Your restoration! Thank You that You have erased our mistakes and bad choices! You are the restorer of what was once broken! Thank You for being so passionate over us! May Your name receive the glory, now, always, and forevermore! Amen!!
