The Day The Sun Stood Still!

Daily Bible CoverEverybody loves a sunny day.  It seems like no matter what your troubles are, everything looks better in the sunshine! I remember waay baack in the olden days before we knew about skin cancer, all my friends and I would pack up our kids and hit McDonalds for a to-go lunch and we'd all go to Lucky Peak for a day of swimming and sunning on the sandy beach.  We would slather up our kids and ourselves with tanning lotion.  And all of us would cook ourselves into great tans.  Or at least those of us that didn't turn bright red in the sun.  I couldn't help but think how sunburned we would have been if we had been back in Joshua's time when the sun stood still for a whole day!  Not only that the moon stopped.

Joshua actually had two miracles in two days.  Five kings joined forces and attacked the Gibeonites.  They sent word to Joshua that they need help because they had made peace with the Israelites.

The Lord said to Joshua "Do not be afraid, I have given them to you.  The Lord threw them into confusion and the Lord hurled large hailstones on them.  And then Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:

"Sun stand still over Gibeon, and you moon over the Valley of Aijalon"  So the sun stood still and the moon stopped till the nation avenged itself on it's enemies.

I looked up "The Lost Day on and found out a few things scientists said about this.  I'll share part of it with you today.  It is fantastic.

Recently scientists were checking the position of the sun, moon and planets out in space where they would be 100  and 1000 years from now.  We have to know this so we won't send a satellite up and have it bump into something later on in it's orbits.

We have to lay out the orbits in terms of the life of the satellite, and where the planets are so the whole thing won't bog down.  They ran the computer measurement back and forth over the centuries and it came to a halt and put up a red signal.

They called the service department to check it out  and said "what's wrong?"   Well they found there is a day missing in space in elapsed time and tore their hair.  There was no answer.

Finally a Christian man on the team said "I remember in Sunday school they talked about the sun standing still.  They didn't believe him but said "show us".  They read Joshua 10:12-13.

The scientists said, "there's the missing day!"  But it still wasn't enough.  The time missing was 23 hours and 20 minutes.  Not a whole day.  The Christian man remember another Sunday school story where it said the sun went backwards.

They found the story in 2 Kings where Hezekiah on his deathbed asked for proof that he wasn't going to die by having the sun go backward 10 degrees, and it did.  Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes.  Twenty three hours and 20 minutes in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in 2nd Kings make the missing day in the universe!

Our God who brings the Sonlight into our lives loves each one of us so much that He cares about the most intricate details of our live.
