I walked into Pastor Nate's office talking a mile a minute as I entered. I was startled as I saw a bald person sitting at his desk. Without thinking I blurted out, "You're not Nate", and then thinking to myself that I should apologize for barging in on a visitor. The visitor slowly stood up and put a hat on and it was Pastor Nate. We had a good laugh over this, but I truly did not recognize Pastor Nate.
So here we are on day 15 of our Bible reading and I have read on day 6 about Abram's name being changed to Abraham, The father of many nations,, and Sarai's name being changed to Sarah, who God will bless and she would be the mother of many nations.
So here we are on day 14 and 15 and Jacob has wrestled with God and his name is changed to Israel. And I think how important names are to God. Psalms 147:4 says
God determines the number of stars and calls them by name.
Then I thought of how when we find Christ, our names our written in the Lamb's book of life and we are so different, many of our old friends don't even recognize us. We are tranformed into His likeness.
God loves each us so much that he even writes our names on the palm of His hand. Isaiah 49:16 says, "See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hand! We are so valuable and important to God, He has our names written on His hand so He can look and say "he or she is mine".
Like the hymn of old says, "There's a New Name written down in Heaven, and it's mine, oh yes it's mine. And the white robed angels tell the story, a sinner has come home.
I hope you are encouraged today by how much God loves you and how valuable you are to him just the way you are. And don't forget to take the opportunity to take part in "Encounter" coming the 18th.
