The Reflection

Have you ever looked in the mirror and said to yourself, "I have no idea who that person is?

It still amazes me how fast and often we as humans have the ability to get ourselves into trouble. And to the point where we often look up and wonder how did I get here? The answer in it's most simple form can be said in a single word - sin.

I have heard it said, "Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay, and cost you more than you wanted to pay." The unfortunate part, is that no matter how many times we end up down that road, we seem to find ourselves traveling it more often than we care to admit.

But sin in our lives is so much more than the choices we make and the actions we take. It is a heart issue. Jesus himself said this in Matthew:

34 You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.  - Matthew 12:34-35

What we have put in our heart will speak. We may be good at keeping it hidden for the most part but sooner or later what we have in our hearts will be made known. It cannot help but come out.

Solomon knew this as well and wrote this in Proverbs:

19 As in water face reflects face,
so the heart of man reflects the man.
  - Proverbs 27:19

Today as you go about the tasks and engage in the relationships God has given you, ask yourself, what does your reflection look like these days? What is the mirror that God is placing in front of your heart reflecting right now?
